For next to nothing, you can operate your own government quarters or home-based business, set your own hours and begin to care for children on an hourly, part day, full-day or extended basis, be with your own children, and help children develop and learn, all at home. Family Child Care is always seeking honest, reliable, committed and quality caregivers to provide in-home care to support the Altus Air Force base mission. The lending program also includes a wide range of child development and safety items such as games, toys, safety gates, first aid supplies, cribs, and general supplies. View below to see a sample of a mock Family Child Care environment for the myriad of choices offered.

Base Housing residents providing home care for 10 or more hours per week more on a consistent basis must be licensed. The licensing for home care is provided through AF SVS Family Member Program Flight and approved by the 97 Mission Support Group Commander. One reason base home day care providers must be licensed involves possible accidents/incidents involving legal liability. All AF Family Member Program day care providers are required to hold at least $300K in liability insurance. Each provider's insurance policy is reviewed by base legal before they are allowed to operate. An individual providing care without liability insurance may be held financially liable if a child is hurt, injured or dies while in their care.

The Air Force is not legally responsible for those caring for children without a license for more than 10 hours per week. If someone is reported as providing care illegally, a visit from security forces and the Family Child Care Coordinator are required. If the care continues beyond the visit, a written letter from the MSG commander follows and if care still continues the MSG commander may revoke housing privileges. If you suspect illegal care, please call 481-6931. The caller can remain anonymous.

There are many benefits to having a licensed family child care provider care for your children. Licensed providers are trained in child abuse, CPR, first aid, medication administration, and are required to complete 18 AF Family Child Care Modules, plus maintain 24 hrs of training per year. FCC providers are monitored regularly. They are subject to fire, safety, USDA and health inspections. Also the Family Child Care Coordinator makes unannounced monthly inspections on the provider's home at different times of the day. The FCC Coordinator also visits often during a one month period to do observations for modules, to disperse newsletters, and just to keep the lines of communication open.

The Family Child Care Coordinator, Ms. Laurie Salafia is always seeking quality providers for Family Child Care. She realizes that there is a need for Extended Duty Care and shift care at Altus AFB, but we need reliable and quality providers willing to provide this type of care, so illegal care and liability don't become an issue. All training, equipment and supplies are provided by the Air Force, so don't be afraid to start your own business in your very own home! If anyone is interested in becoming a FCC provider, please call Laurie Salafia @ 481-6931 or stop by the office inside the CDC for more information.
